Nigel learnt to quilt at HMP Wandsworth to an extremely high standard. He has written about the experience:

I find the marking, cutting, piecing and quilting are in themselves calming and therapeutic. I came into Wanno in '97 with about £160 and left with £560 in 2001, so I would guess most of this cash was earnt as payments for FCW. I was able then to set myself up outside and by then I had most of what I needed to function, e.g clothes, mobile phone, mountain bike etc. Apart from the pleasure I get personally from the work there is feedback from satisfied customers who enjoy the product of my efforts.
