COMMISSIONS

Interiors

The recent growth of Fine Cell Work’s projects means that the charity can now offer this uniquely creative design service to more interior design professionals, providing the industry with UK-based hand-embroidery skills for the creation of original and distinctive accessories for interiors including cushions, seat covers, rugs, quilts or wall hangings.

Fine Cell Work is able to create completely original pieces to a designer’s specification or drawing, or our in-house design team will work closely to help you or your client realise the design you have in mind.
Professionals in the field who have provided designs for Fine Cell Work include Jasper Conran, Cath Kidston, Celia Birtwell, Nicholas Haslam, and Allegra Hicks.

Fine Cell Work is actively supported by many luminaries in the interior design world who recognise and use the superb quality work the prisoners make. Key supporters include interior designer Melissa Wyndham, who serves on Fine Cell Work’s Design Committee; rug designer Sandy Jones, a Design Committee member who has also served as an instructor at some of the prison projects; and Karen Nicol, visiting Professor at the Royal College of Art Textiles Department, whose Embroidery Studio works for leading fashion designers.

Accessories for Interiors

The range of products that Fine Cell Work can produce is growing and includes:

•   Antique linen patchwork cushions
•   Appliqué, tapestry and surface embroidery cushions
•   Cot-size to king-size patchwork quilts
•   Needlepoint rugs
•   Tapestry seat covers for furniture
•   Wall hangings
•   Specific designs undertaken to commissions

Lead times vary but generally are between 3-4 months for cushions and 6-9 months for quilts; larger projects may take longer but we will quote lead times at the outset of a project and always meet an agreed deadline.
We have carried out  bespoke work for many London-based designers, including:

•    John Stefanidis
•    William Yeoward
•    English Heritage
•    Kit Kemp, Creative Director of Firmdale Hotel Group
•    Precious McBane for Virgin Radio

“We have created an unusual ‘logo’ for Haymarket Hotel and wanted it reproduced in a very exacting and detailed way, with appliqué and embroidery. Fine Cell Work has been so enthusiastic, open to lots of ideas, and a joy to work with.”
Kit Kemp, Co Owner, Firmdale Hotels

To work with a charity with such a practical and considered policy is inspiring and, as interior designers, it is reassuring to know that the time consuming and meticulous skill of needlepoint has a future."
Precious McBane, Interior Designers
